Ajay Devgn‘s Raid 2, the highly anticipated sequel to his 2018 film Raid, is now scheduled to release early next year. The film was originally set to hit theatres on November 15, this year. The film’s director, Rajkumar Gupta, in an interview with indianexpress.com confirmed that the movie will not be releasing in November as planned earlier as it is still in the post production stage.

Confirming the change in Raid 2’s release date, he said, “The film is releasing early next year, not in November.”

In their release date announcement, T-Series, the makers of Raid 2, had shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) on January 6, 2024. The post read: “The wait is over! Ajay Devgn is back as IRS Officer Amay Patnaik in #Raid2, ready to bring another true case to the big screen on 15th November 2024!”

Interestingly the change in the release date of Raid 2 comes after Ajay’s Singham Again, directed by Rohit Shetty, was delayed. Singham Again, which was originally scheduled to be released in cinemas on August 15, will now release on November 1, around Diwali.

Rajkumar Gupta then discussed how Raid 2 will “carry forward” the journey of Ajay’s character Amay Patnaik, who was the IRS Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax in Raid. He said, “The film will carry forward Ajay sir. It was great working with him again. He is such a fabulous actor as well as star. It was great. While I cannot give you much about the premise of the film, all I can say is that we have finished shooting. We started shooting in January (2024) and we finished shooting in June. Now we are in post production stage. We are editing the film, and hopefully everything will come together.”

When asked if he is worried about the volatile nature of the box office and Hindi films not working in cinemas as expected, Gupta aid, “As far as box office is concerned, ups and downs are there for everyone. Right now, I mean this year, especially post pandemic, it’s been a tough time for the entire industry. It’s not about one actor or one star. It’s been across the board. Then some films have worked also. Last year also there were some films that worked. It has been a little uneven, but we all are hoping and trying to see what all best we can do. As filmmakers, we can only try and make films that tell a good story, in the best possible way, and hope that the audience comes in.”

Raid 2, directed by Rajkumar Gupta, also stars Ritiesh Deshmukh and Vaani Kapoor.
