Ever since Lover, starring Manikandan and Sri Gouri Priya, was released, actress Harini Sundarajan, who played the role of the heroine’s best friend, has been at the receiving end of online trolling and abuse. Harini, who is known by her social media username Rini Bot, shot to fame with her tweets and photoshoots. She has also acted in Fingertip Tamil web series.
Since the release of Lover, Harini has been receiving backlash for her role in the film. Things have gone from bad to worse ever since the film had its OTT premiere on March 27. Finally, Harini took to social media to hit out on her abusers. She said that disagreement need not be shown with disrespect.
According to Harini’s post, many X users abused her on DM for her role as Aishu in Lover. “This morning, I woke up to some idiots in my DMs swearing at me because they don’t like Aishu in Lover. Firstly, that they think it’s okay to be vile and disrespectful towards an actor because they didn’t like a character they played is beyond me,” she tweeted.
“Secondly, don’t these thick heads realise that this behaviour only warrants the need for more Aishus? Disagreement does not have to be shown with disrespect,” she added.

Lover is the story of a toxic and abusive relationship between Divya (Sri Gouri Priya) and Arun (Manikandan). Due to his insecurities, Arun keeps emotionally and verbally abusing Divya, who also fails to put an end to the relationship. She keeps forgiving him and as the toxic cycle continues, Aishu, a dear friend of Divya, keeps advising her friend to end the relationship for once. However, many youngsters started relating to Arun and found Aishu to be a bad friend creating problems for the couple, which led to online trolling. Harini’s Aishu character was turned into a meme material and the many posts even made fun of her looks.
Directed by Prabhu Ram Vyas, Lover turned out to be a decent hit. However, the film’s intended message was misinterpreted by the masses. While the film batted against characters like Arun, many youngsters ended up idolizing the character.
