Winter is coming, but the show isn’t. The Jon Snow spinoff series, which would have acted as a sequel to Game of Thrones following Kit Harington’s character, is no longer in the works. The actor has confirmed that the series is now “off the table” and won’t be going forward anytime soon.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Harington spoke about the much-speculated spinoff, which was reported in 2022. The series would have focused on Harington’s loved character Jon Snow from the fantasy show Game of Thrones, which concluded its epic run in 2019.

Kit Harington said he had earlier never spoken about the series as it was in development stage and he didn’t want it “leaked out”, but he is in a better position to talk about it today as it is finally confirmed that the team won’t be going ahead with the HBO series.

“I didn’t want the thing to happen where people kind of start theorizing, getting either excited about it or hating the idea of it, when it may never happen. Because in development, you look at every angle, and you see whether it’s worth it. And currently, it’s not.

“Currently, it’s off the table, because we all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough. So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future where we return to it, but at the moment, no. It’s firmly on the shelf,” he said.

Though a Jon Snow-focused spinoff isn’t happening, other productions of the Game of Thrones franchise are in already in motion, with prequel series such as House of the Dragon–now gearing for its season two– and the upcoming A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, all based on the works of George RR Martin.

While House of the Dragon season 2 is gearing for its June premiere, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight will reportedly go on floors later this year.
