The film Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and featuring Ranbir Kapoor in lead role, has played a pivotal role in rejuvenating Bobby Deol’s career. The actor played a brief role in the film but walked away with a lot of appreciation. In a recent interview, Ranbir Kapoor shared anecdotes about the intense fight sequence between him and Bobby Deol in the film, specifically recalling the last fight scene where they had to remove their shirts.

The climactic sequence of Animal showcased a gritty fist fight between Ranbir and Bobby’s characters. As the two stars engaged in the physically demanding scene, their shirts came off, adding an extra layer of rawness that captivated the audience. Speaking on Netflix India, Ranbir humorously revealed that even though he was confident when he removed his shirt, he was intimidated after Bobby took his shirt off.

He said, “Trainers were taking my photos in the gym because I was the first one to remove my shirt in the film. So, when I removed my shirt the whole unit started clapping that ‘hero ne shirt nikali (Hero has removed his shirt).’ Two days later, when Bobby’s shirt was removed, me and my trainer thought we are gone.”

During the interview, Ranbir asked Bobby Deol about the ‘Lord Bobby’ phenomenon that gained substantial attention after the film’s release. He responded by saying, “No, there is just so much love out there. That’s why you get this kind of reaction.”

Bobby had earlier revealed that he and Ranbir were supposed to kiss in the final fight sequence. “He said, ‘You’re fighting, and you suddenly kiss him, and then you don’t give up, and he kills you’. But he removed the kiss. There was a kiss. I think it might come on the uncut Netflix version. After saying all this, he said, ‘You’re mute’,” he told The Quint. The film is now streaming on Netflix but the streaming version is the same as the theatrical version, with no extended cuts.

Despite facing criticism for its portrayal of misogyny and violence, Animal emerged as one of the most significant blockbusters of 2023, amassing close to Rs 900 crore worldwide. The film became available for streaming on Netflix last week.
