Actor Fahadh Faasil, who is currently receiving accolades for his performance in Aavesham, has opened up about how he is not dependent on external factors to leave an everlasting impression on screen. The actor also discussed his character Ranga, a colourful Malyalee don living in Bengaluru, and drew comparisons with Munna Bhai.

In an interview with Film Companion, Fahadh was asked about his towel dance in the film and how he did so without flaunting any abs and yet nailed the scene. He said, “I don’t want to depend on any external factors to pull off a performance or make a mark. I think the process is internal. When you work internally, everything changes—the way he walks, the way he behaves, everything changes. And I’m very comfortable with that. So, my wife just said, ‘You’re taking off your shirt, just look presentable, that’s all.’ So I tried to do that. But more than anything, it was a celebration of the character. Jithu (director Jithu Madhavan) wanted to do something much wilder but we didn’t do it because of the time factor.”

Talking about his character, the actor said, “He (his character Ranga) wanted to be an actor. These are all the backstories of Ranga. He’s a failed actor. We had a scene that he was a major fan of a particular kind of actor. Too much information was packed in… hopefully the prequel should cover that.”

Fahadh was all praise for co-star Sajin Gopu, who played the role of Amban. He said, “If you look at it, in fact, I was talking to Jithu and a few other friends, it’s Munna Bhai-Circuit (the relationship shared by Sanjay Dutt’s don Munna and his loyal lieutenant Circuit, played by Arshad Warsi in the Rajkumar Hirani film). He (Sajin) is a very interesting actor. And I think he internalizes it because I’ve never spoken to him about how we’re going to do it, you know, how we’re going to say it. He’s never asked me anything. We were ready all the time.”

Aaveshman is helmed by Jithu Madhavan and also stars Mithun Jai Shankar, Roshan Shanavas among others.
