A few weeks back, actor Krishna Mukherjee accused her show Shubh Shagun’s producer Kundan Singh of not clearing her dues. Krishna even claimed that she was locked on the set of the show when she demanded her payment. These allegations from Krishna received a lot of support from the TV industry, and many actors spoke in her favour. Indianexpress.com recently got in touch with Kundan to learn his side of the story. The producer not only accused Krishna of trying to gain limelight by defaming him, but he also made some very shocking revelations.
Sharing his take on the matter, Kundan said, “My take on the matter is that I have been defamed. The variations in her allegations point out who is lying and who is speaking the truth. First, she claimed on Instagram that Kundan Singh locked her. If I lock someone, will that person not try to break the door first? The most common thing to do is call the police. Her friends are claiming that Krishna called them. If Krishna had called the police, those guys would have been immediately arrested. Her friend claimed in a video that she was locked, but because it was at Madh Island, he could not go. If your female friend is stuck in a situation like this, wouldn’t you go? The friend could have informed the police.”

Kundan Singh went on to say that Krishna Mukherjee had filed a similar FIR against two boys from the production team a year and a half ago, and at that time Kundan had immediately taken action too. “Let me tell you the truth. The day she is claiming she was locked, we were shooting in Goregoan and she has mentioned it in her FIR. In the FIR, she accuses me of locking her in the room. She had put a similar allegation on two other men from the production team a year and a half ago. They had asked her to complete the shoot because she had come late on set, and the telecast was the next day. Arguments between an artiste and production team happen every day on a set, and the next day they work together. She made the issue so serious that she lodged an FIR against them and because it came from a woman, I also acted very strongly on it and fired them immediately. The next day, I learned that nothing like that had happened.”
Kundan added that despite learning this, he barred those two boys from going on set and released them after a handover. He continues, “Even I thought that if something so serious would have happened, Krishna would have called me first, since they were my employees. If she didn’t trust me, she could have called the cops. But if she or her friends didn’t have the common sense to call the cops, you can imagine how true this information is.” Kundan even slammed Krishna for accusing him of threatening her. He said, “She even accused me of threatening her. How would I do that? Either through messages or calls or in person, so she should have at least one proof of my threats to her. It is pure defamation from her end to come into the limelight. She was on vacation. Once the holidays were over, she came back thinking about how to get work in the industry and get highlighted. So insulting someone else is the best way.”

When asked if her dues of Rs 39 lakhs have been cleared, Kundan shared that he couldn’t divulge too many details since the matter is subjudice. But he shared, “She has accused me of not clearing her dues, but there is a way to get it and it is mentioned in her agreement. It says that if there is any dispute with the payment, then we can go to court for arbitration and mediation. Not her, but we ourselves put a request for mediation and asked her to come to court. These cases usually get solved in days in court, and a clear result is given. But she refused to come for that mediation too. If she had come for mediation, I would have openly spoken about whether her dues were cleared or not. But now because the matter is subjudice, I cannot openly speak on it. I can reveal things to you only in the limit. If I cross that limit, it won’t serve my purpose to go to the court.”
Krishna Mukherjee had also accused Kundan Singh of locking an actor on the sets of a Balaji show. Reacting to the accusation, the Shubh Shagun producer said, “Imagine they are dragging a prestigious company like Balaji into this. I have worked with Balaji, and every show they have is like a family. Everyone is treated with great respect there be it a junior artiste. So, is she trying to say that the artiste who I locked up on Balaji sets never revolted? He or she never spoke up? Do you think anybody can do something like this on a Balaji set? Bringing Balaji into this is wrong. Just because she wants to prove herself as truthful, she is making up ten other lies.”

Kundan further shared what happened the night Krishna claimed she was locked on set. He revealed, “When I learned that Krishna was not willing to wait and had a huge argument with the production team and she left, I immediately called her up. But it was obvious that she would have been in a bad mood at that time. She sounded very disturbed, so I assured her I was with her and would take action on anyone who was at fault. She told me she would come and meet me the next day. But this all happened over the phone. We never came face to face. If I was present, how come nobody saw me? Would all of this happen in front of a producer? Never. If I had been there, why would I have called her? She claims that she was locked twice. If you are locked once in a place, will you go on that set again and give those people a chance to lock you again? When it happened the first time, she should have called the police. If it happened a second time, then there was all the more reason to call the cops. When my statement came on social media, her statement changed. My employees are locking you and even telling you that Kundan Singh has asked them to lock you, who does that?”

Kundan Singh said that if Krishna Mukherjee is right, she should furnish proof of her allegations. He even stated that there is “no logic in her story”. Kundan also pointed out how Krishna’s accusations kept changing when he pointed out errors. Stating that if Aly Goni’s claim of her shooting at Madh Island was a mistake, couldn’t Krishna ask him to rectify that video and send a new one? “If she shared that video and tagged me on it, she saw it too. These mistakes are being realized after I point them out. They all want to just come into the limelight. Social media is not my bread and butter, but some people want to seek work through that only. Krishna’s statements have had variations so sensible people will understand. She is taking her allegations so lightly.”
On a parting note, Kundan says that he will let the court decide if he is wrong. However, he will never forgive Krishna and all those who supported the actor in her attempt to defame him.
