One of the biggest hits in Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan’s career, the 1988 romantic musical Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (QSQT) remains a fan favourite to date. Helmed by Aamir’s cousin and producer-director Nasir Hussain’s son, Mansoor Khan, QSQT left an indelible mark on the careers of many involved, including Aamir, female lead Juhi Chawla and the filmmaker himself, who all made their debuts with this movie, as well as singers Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik.

However, Aamir recently shared that he was initially apprehensive about the film and saw “only the flaws” when he watched it with Mansoor. “But one day it was released, and it was wonderful to see the journey he had. I like to believe Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak is a milestone in Indian cinema. From 1988 onwards, you can see the shift happening,” the superstar said, while launching a new rendition of his iconic song “Papa Kehte Hain” from QSQT for the upcoming film Srikanth, starring Rajkummar Rao in the lead role.

Speaking on the occasion, Udit Narayan also shared his apprehensions about QSQT’d song “Papa Kehte Hain” and wondered if it would work. He said, “36 years ago they introduced me to Aamir and said that I have to sing a song for him. I was scared, and I was ready to go back home if the song didn’t work.” Aamir hilariously said that Udit looked at him and might have thought, “Yeh actor hai?”

While Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak bagged the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment at the 36th National Film Awards, it received eleven nominations and went on to win eight awards, including Best Film and Best Director, at the 34th Filmfare Awards.
