Kiku Sharda, who is now seen on Kapil Sharma’s new Netflix show The Great Indian Kapil Show, recently opened up about how ego battles on a show could bring it down. Kiku was talking about Kapil’s leadership on his show where he lets his team members shine and takes a back seat when they are performing their act.

In a chat with Connect FM Canada, when Kiku was asked if ego could become a hindrance when they have to take shots amongst the cast members, Kiku said that Kapil has always been “comfortable” with this idea. “Even on screen, when you see me cracking some wicked jokes on Kapil… he is very comfortable with that. We share a comfortable rapport. He knows me, we have been working together for many years. I have the utmost respect for him,” he said.

Kiku said that many people come up to him and suggest that he should have his own show but they don’t realise the amount of work that it takes to have one’s show. “I realise that the 10-15 minute act that we put up, I really work hard on creating those characters and creating the humour but the balance that Kapil has to do… Kapil has to do an entire episode that goes on for an hour or hour and a half, having a conversation with the guest, and within that too there is a certain line you cannot cross. You have to be humorous but when need be, you have to take a backseat as well. Kapil does all of that so beautifully. This is not an easy job. It is certainly not as easy as it looks,” he said.

Kiku said that when he is in the middle of his act, sometimes, Kapil will stand behind the sofa so Kiku gets the entire stage to himself. Or even when he is doing a two-person act with Krushna Abhishek, Kapil lets them be. “Only a man with utmost security can offer this. Kapil is more than secured in his space,” he said and added that they have been working within the same format for ten years and are still pretty successful at that. “We started this format in 2013 and it is still going on. Everyone knows what’s happening and everyone is doing well in their field. It is a beautiful combination. A lot of shows wrap up because of ego battles. We are still around in our eleventh year so there must be something about us.”

Sunil Grover, who previously had a feud with Kapil Sharma, has joined the show’s cast again. The Great Indian Kapil Show has brought Kapil and Sunil back together after six years. After their professional separation, Sunil starred in his own show that had a short run.
