Farah Khan grew up in a film family but hers wasn’t the kind of family where she was served everything on a silver platter. In fact, Farah had to start working at a young age because she had to make ends meet and soon, she found her calling as a choreographer. In a recent interview, Farah said that her family was unlike many other because they did not want her to get married before she became financially independent.

Talking to the YouTube channel of Nova IVF Fertility, Farah said that she was always a “work oriented person” and in her 20s, marriage and motherhood wasn’t on her mid. But, she mentioned, that the though of marriage once crossed her mind at the age of 22 when her family advised her against it. “Marriage was not on my mind at all. I think at 22 or something, I thought I will get married but I have a weird family. They got together and they said we will kick you out of the house if you get married this young, without doing anything in life. So they were the complete opposite of what normal parents would do,” she said.

Farah said that her mother strictly told her that she would throw Farah out of the house if she got married. “My mother said I’ll throw you out of the house. You have to make something of your life. You have to be financially independent before you get married,” she said. Farah said that before she met Shirish Kunder, she never even thought about getting married.

Farah and Shirish got married in 2004. They later welcomed triplets through IVF in 2008. She said that if she and Shirish did not have kids, it would have been tough for them. “If there was no IVF, I probably would not have had kids and I think either Shirish would have killed me or I would have killed him by now. By now, we would have killed each other because the children are a big factor in keeping everyone together,” she said.

Farah mentioned that other film industry folks had their doubts about Farah’s wedding. She recalled, “No one thought I am going to get married and no one thought that I am going to stay married. I remember this very famous director was asked, ‘Are you attending Farah’s wedding?’ And he said ‘no, but I will attend the next one’. So I was like I’ll show you, wait.”
