Siddharth Anand’s Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone-starrer Fighter has surpassed the Rs 100 crore mark in the domestic market within just four days of its release. According to industry tracker Sacnilk’s early estimates, the film earned Rs 28.50 crore on Sunday, bringing its India nett collection to Rs 118 crore. Currently, the movie’s worldwide gross stands at Rs 137.5 crore.

Meanwhile, amid the massive success of the movie, director Siddharth Anand has opened up about his plans for the movie’s sequel. “Yeah, that audience will decide. Abhi dekhte hain abhi 3 hi din hue hain (We’ll see. It’s been just three days since the film release). I think audience ka pyaar (love) will decide what we will do, and we would love to make Fighter 2 a larger story. We have some great ideas that we want to put it down to,” he said during a chat with Pinkvilla.

Anand, however, mentioned that he never gets excited to make sequels. “I’m probably one of the few directors who has not made a sequel yet. Every director in this country or rather one of the top directors of the country has all made sequels. There is no director who has not made a sequel. So, I am probably the one who has not made a sequel, and I am refraining from that. I don’t want to make sequels yet,” he added.

Mentioning that he likes to keep making new characters and stories, the Fighter director observed that sequels come with a certain comfort zone. “You start relying on the nostalgia and try to match that vo mujhe maza nahin …(that I don’t enjoy) that’s where my stagnation will happen. I feel that I may be wrong, but I want to just keep challenging myself,” he said, adding that a sequel is a very comfortable space and he doesn’t want to get comfortable just yet.

Also starring Anil Kapoor in a key role, Fighter was Siddharth Anand’s immediate next directorial venture following the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan (2023), which grossed over Rs 1,000 crore worldwide.

In her review of the movie, The Indian Express’ Shubhra Gupta wrote, “Hrithik Roshan-Deepika Padukone starrer succumbs to the current atmosphere of hyper-nationalism, which in turn weakens the film. Baaps don’t go around declaring who they are. They just know.”
