Actor Alyy Khan, who was recently seen as the villain in Netflix’s The Archies, also played a prominent role in the Disney+ Hotstar series The Trial some months before that. In an interview, he described his co-star in the show, Kajol, as a ‘thorough professional’, and said that it was all business on set, even when they shot an intimate kiss sequence. Alyy said that he watched the scene with his wife and daughter, and nobody objected to it because of the matter-of-fact manner with which it was shot.

In an interview with Maliha Rehman, Alyy was asked about Kajol breaking her ‘no-kissing policy’ for the show. He said, “I had no idea that she had such a policy. I didn’t know Kajol before this. It was news to me. I only found out there was a kiss in it when I read the scripts. It just became a mountain out of a mole hill.” Asked if it was actually ‘no big deal’ on set, Alyy said, “Not at all. It was no big deal on camera as well, the way it’s been shot and presented.”

He continued, “The fun thing is that I mentioned it to my wife, and we were on holiday in Thailand. It was just the beginning of Muharram, so I said, ‘Let’s watch it after Ashura’. When we started watching, I was sitting on the sofa with my wife, and my daughter was on the other sofa. The kiss came and went, and they looked at me, and I looked at them, and we carried on watching. And that was it. Nobody was thinking that this is my father or my husband, nobody giggled. As a viewer, it was believable, so you just carried on watching it.”

Describing Kajol, he said, “She’s a thorough professional, into her kids, into her career. Didn’t give any attitude or hassle on set.” In a previous interview with Nadir Ali, Alyy described what shooting the scene was like, and said, “Now, it’s work, so it has to be done… Chingum (chewing gum) thi mooh mein, aur Kajol ke mian ka production hai, Ajay Devgn ka. He didn’t come to set that day. We were shooting at a posh hotel in Mumbai, and the director asked if we’d like a closed set, which means that only the important people would be allowed to be present. I told the director and Kajol both how I was going to approach the kiss… But not for one second was there any shame, or embarrassment, or hesitation. It was such a professional shoot. And when we were done — we rehearsed three or four times — and we walked over to the monitors, asked each other if we were happy, and moved on. Kajol said, ‘Thank you, my darling’.”.

A remake of the popular American show The Good Wife, The Trial also starred Kubbra Sait, Jisshu Sengupta and Sheeba Chaddha.
