Tamil music composer Ilaiyaraaja has been a vocal supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The famed musician even received brickbats for comparing Dr. BR Ambedkar and Modi in his foreword to a book titled Ambedkar & Modi: Reformer’s Ideas, Performer’s Implementation. However, Ilaiyaraaja was relentless in holding on to his opinion, and now, he has yet again made another bold statement comparing PM Modi to historical figures like Pandian Kings.

On the sidelines of a media event in Chennai, Ilaiyaraaja said, “In history, this (Ram Mandir inauguration) is happening for the first time. When I say historically, it has not happened in the North or in Tamil Nadu… even if you see worldwide, this is the first time such an event is happening. This act has brought everlasting laurel for PM Modi. Who else can get this fortunate? Who else can do this? Who else could have done this? No one could have done it. His fate is written that way. How many PMs have been in power in India! Think about what all they have done, and also think about whose deeds have stood the test of time.”

He added, “When I talk about the things Modi ji has done, my eyes tear up. Kings who ruled before built temples in their respective provinces. The Pandyas built Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple and his lineage worshipped there. Cholas, Cheras, and Pandyas built temples in their respective small provinces. Chola’s Brihadeeswarar temple became world-famous. But all of them built in their small provinces. How else to describe Ram Mandir, which has been built for the whole nation! PM Modi has done what the kings used to do.”

The Ram Mandir inauguration took place on January 22 in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. Many celebrities, including Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Vicky Kaushal, Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan, and Alia Bhatt, attended the event.
