One of the most anticipated Indian films of the year, Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Mohanlal-starrer Malaikottai Vaaliban is set for release on January 25. Its official trailer, unveiled recently by the makers, has created a buzz among cinephiles, showcasing extraordinary visuals that are captivating even on smaller screens, emphasising that the overall experience will be unparalleled when the movie premieres on the big screen.

Underscoring this, Mohanlal stated that the LJP directorial has been designed by giving special attention to making it an unforgettable theatrical watch. In a recent chat with Cue Studio, the superstar also drew parallels between the movie’s design and that of iconic films such as Ramesh Sippy’s Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Sholay (1975) and certain MGR films like Ulagam Sutrum Valiban (1973).

“Such movies like Sholay and Ulagam Sutrum Valiban are crafted on a grand scale, necessitating a theatrical viewing experience. Back then, we didn’t even have mini-screens, right? Personally, I enjoy watching films in theatres, whether they are large or small. However, when we try to watch big films on smaller screens, we miss out on their many nuances in areas such as music, mixing and other aspects. Therefore, such films offer a superior experience when viewed on larger screens and Malaikottai Vaaliban possesses all these qualities,” he stated.

Director Lijo Jose Pellissery added that he has infused elements from various folk stories from across the world into Malaikottai Vaaliban, aiming to deliver a level of excitement comparable to reading Amar Chitra Katha comics.

Mohanlal highlighted that Malaikottai Vaaliban also incorporates a profound philosophy exploring the dichotomy between truth and falsehood. “You can watch it like a zen movie or an action spectacle or a film delving into human emotions such as love, revenge, envy and so on. The viewer has the right to decide how they should perceive the film,” he added.

Also starring Sonalee Kulkarni, Hareesh Peradi, Manoj Moses, Katha Nandi, Danish Sait and Manikandan R Achari, Malaikottai Vaaliban has been jointly produced by John & Mary Creative (in their maiden production), Century Films, Maxlab Cinemas and Yoodlee Films, along with Amen Movie Monastery.
