Even as the Malayalam film industry grapples with sexual assault allegations against many of its prominent figures, a new drug case involving notorious gangster Omprakash has emerged, implicating actors Sreenath Bhasi and Prayaga Martin. Omprakash and his associate Shihas were arrested from a hotel in Kochi following a tip-off regarding a significant drug sale. The remand report states that Sreenath Bhasi and Prayaga Martin visited Omprakash’s hotel room.

The police submitted the report when the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court was considering the bail applications of the accused. The court granted bail to them due to insufficient evidence. According to Mathrubhumi, Omprakash organised a drug party at the hotel and young film stars, including Bhasi and Prayaga, visited him.

The police also discovered a small amount of cocaine in Omprakash’s possession, raising further suspicions. The remand report names several others — Baiju, Anoop, Don Louis, Arun, Aloysius, Sneha, Tipson, Sridevi, Roopa and Pappi — as individuals who visited him, the publication reported.

Manorama News reported that a DJ party was organised in the rooms booked by Omprakash under the name Bobby Chalapathi on Saturday. Authorities are investigating whether drugs were used at the event. Since Sreenath Bhasi and Prayaga Martin reportedly visited him on the same day, police plan to question them soon. “We are investigating based on the mobile phones recovered from the accused. We cannot disclose further details about the CCTV footage at this time,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order, Traffic), Kochi city, KS Sudarsan told the channel. Omprakash has over 30 criminal cases against him, including the infamous Paul Muthoot murder.

In 2023, the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA), the Kerala Film Producers’ Association (KFPA) and the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) had announced that they would no longer collaborate with Sreenath Bhasi after receiving complaints about him from several producers.

In 2022, Bhasi was arrested for allegedly insulting a woman journalist. However, when the case reached the Kerala High Court, the actor sought to dismiss the FIR, claiming that “the matter has been settled” with the complainant, who also indicated she did not wish to pursue the case further.
