French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that France will organise an international conference this month aimed at raising humanitarian aid for Lebanon and enhancing security in its southern regions.

“We will hold a conference in the coming weeks to provide humanitarian assistance, rally international support, and back the Lebanese armed forces in strengthening security, particularly in southern Lebanon,” Macron stated following a meeting of French-speaking nations in Paris, according to a report by Reuters.

The announcement comes amid escalating tensions, with Israel intensifying its bombing campaign in Lebanon and deploying ground troops across the border.

This follows nearly a year of skirmishes with Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed militant group. While fighting has mainly been confined to the Israel-Lebanon border, it has been taking place alongside Israel’s ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza.
