After a quirky announcement teaser, the makers of Rajkummar Rao and Tripti Dimrii’s Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video unveiled the film’s trailer on Thursday. The movie also brings back legendary Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi with his iconic track “Na Na Na Re” and features pivotal roles played by Mallika Sherawat and Vijay Raaz.

The trailer opens with visuals of Vicky (Rajkummar) and Vidya’s (Tripti) wedding in Rishikesh. Vicky suggests making a video of their wedding night as a keepsake. However, their world turns upside down when their CD player—and the wedding night video—gets stolen. Enter Vijay Raaz as a disgruntled cop, tasked with finding the missing video. Initially unimpressed with the case, he quips, “Did I become an Inspector for this day?” His interest quickly piques, however, when he meets Mallika Sherawat’s alluring character, a member of Vicky’s family.

As the search for the CD begins, the laughs keep coming, with Daler Mehndi’s “Na Na Na Re” adding to the excitement in the background. Meanwhile, Vicky, a henna artist by profession, finds himself under suspicion by his wife, who believes he’s having an affair. In a humorous defense, he responds, “Hum jaise middle class ladke date pe nahi, bhandaro pe jate hai” (Middle-class boys like us don’t go on dates, we go to community feasts). The trailer is packed with such hilarious one-liners. It ends with a twist as Vicky and Vidya receive a ransom call for their missing CD and somehow end up at a graveyard.

Described as a “pure masala entertainer set in the swinging 90s,” the movie is directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, known for helming Ayushmann Khurrana’s Dream Girl franchise.

The film’s innovative and playful promotions have piqued the interest of fans, building excitement for the upcoming release. Earlier, the makers shared a quirky teaser featuring the lead actors portraying 90s-style newsreaders, imitating the classic Doordarshan style as they announced their film and humorously dubbed it ‘mahaparivarik’.

Before that, Rajkummar Rai and Tripti Dimrii posted a fun shoot wrap-up video where they grooved to the retro hit “Aap Ke Aa Jane Se,” further fuelling nostalgia with promises of a retro experience. In the post, they wrote, “Jab tak ‘Vicky Vidya ka woh wala Video’ Na aaye, tab tak Vicky Vidya ka Ye wala video Dekho. Lights out, wrap party on! Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video bids farewell to its shoot with unforgettable memories.”

The movie is produced by T-Series, Balaji Telefilms, and Wakaoo Films in collaboration with Thinkink Picturez. Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video is set to hit theatres on October 11.
