Akshay Narang, a cancer survivor, continued his inspiring journey on Amitabh Bachchan’s Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 (KBC 16). Akshay won Rs 12.5 lakh with the help of three lifelines. However, he chose to quit the quiz reality show on the 13th question, worth Rs 25 lakh, as he was uncertain about the answer that he had in mind.

The question that made Akshay quit was: “Which Indian state gives its name to the geological age of the earth that started around 4000 years ago?” The options were A. Rajasthan, B. Kerala, C. Gujarat, and D. Meghalaya. Akshay guessed the answer as Meghalaya but decided not to risk it as he was not 100 percent sure.

Upon quitting, Bachchan asked Akshay to take a shot. Akshay locked in on option D, Meghalaya. Big B was disappointed to tell Akshay that if he had taken the risk, he would have won Rs 25 lakh, as Meghalaya was indeed the correct answer.

Despite missing out on the higher prize money, Akshay was happy to take home Rs 12.5 lakh. During the episode, he opened up about his battle with cancer. He had shared, “In 2018, I was diagnosed with cancer. I had knee pain for quite some time. After getting scans and all, doctors found a golf ball-sized tumour. Then, through biopsy, we found out it was a cancerous tumour. The treatment took place for 1-2 years. During the recovery period, which I spent at home, I started learning designing on my own.”

Akshay lamented that while his friends were enjoying college, he was in the hospital. Amitabh Bachchan offered words of encouragement, saying, “I am sitting in front of you. I have also made many rounds to the hospital, but with the blessings of everyone, I have come out healthy. And there’s no reason to feel upset about your friends who were going to college because they didn’t come to KBC.”

Amitabh Bachchan’s Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 is being telecast on Sony TV from Monday to Friday at 9 pm. It also streams live on SonyLIV.
