Mardaani 2 faired better than the first one, collecting more than Rs 67 crores worldwide. Back in 2014, Mardaani found a lot of critical acclaim, many had said that the film revolutionized the portrayal of women as cops, considering how it is a male-dominated field. Many people within the industry also appreciated Rani Mukerji’s daredevil and fierce avatar in the movie.

Talking about taking up a role that was so raw, Rani Mukerji had told PTI, “I think the 33 percent reserved positions for women Police especially in Mumbai and Gujarat need to be filled up as soon as possible and I strongly appeal that more women come forward and fill these positions and work for a cause. My intention behind doing this film was to inspire women.”

More details on the third installment of Mardaani are awaited. Rani Mukerji’s last outing on the big screen was in Mrs Chatterjee v/s Norway released in 2023.
