Kalki 2898 AD boasts a stellar cast, including the biggest stars from the Hindi film industry and South, besides additional cameo appearances from several beloved actors. The film, helmed by Nag Ashwin, broke several records and collected Rs 1,100 crore at the worldwide box office. However, despite its success, the dystopian sci-fi film, inspired by the Hindu epic Mahabharata and starring Prabhas, failed to impress Arshad Warsi. The actor, who isn’t afraid to call a spade a spade, recently spoke about how disappointed he was after watching Kalki 2898 AD, also featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Kamal Haasan, among others.

Arshad, in a recent interview with Samish Bhatia on his show “Unfiltered”, however, heaped praises on Bachchan’s performance and his portrayal of the immortal Ashwathamma. “Maine Kalki dekhi, mujhe toh nhi acchi lagi. Mujhe bahut takleef hoti hai jab (I watched Kalki and didn’t like it. It hurts me when)… Amit ji was (mind-blowing) unbelievable. I can’t understand that man. I swear if we got the power he has, life ban jaae (our lives would be set). He’s unreal.” However, he didn’t stop himself from criticising Prabhas’ portrayal of Bhairava.

“Prabhas, I am really sad, why was he… he was like a joker. Why? I want to see a Mad Max. I want to see Mel Gibson over there. Tumne usko kya bana dia yaar. Kyu karte ho aisa? Mujhe nahin samajh mein aata (What have you made of it? Why do they do such things? I never understand),” he lamented.  Arshad’s candid reaction to Kalki 2898 AD has certainly stirred up some buzz. Despite the film’s massive success and impressive technical achievements, the Jolly LLB actor’s disappointment highlights how subjective and varied audience responses can be.

The actor also praised Srikanth and appreciated Rajkummar Rao’s performance in the film. The Munna Bhai MBBS actor, said, “I watched Srikant which I liked a lot. I think Rajkummar was great in the film. Bahot badhiya kaam kiya usne (He’s done a fantastic job).”

The 56-year-old thespian further praised horror-comedy Munjya, starring Sharvari Wagh and newbie Abhay Verma. “I have heard a lot of good things about Munjya. It is a small film with a new guy and Sharvari. It is a horror comedy. I want to watch Kill, also. The industry should experiment with its content. South has been experimenting with films and their content,” he added.
