If there is one actor who personifies the phrase “age is just a number,” it’s Amitabh Bachchan. Despite being 81, the actor remains active in his career and is gearing up for the release of his new film Vettaiyan, where he stars alongside Rajinikanth and Fahadh Faasil, even as continues to receive praise for his portrayal of Ashwathama in Kalki 2898 AD. Additionally, Bachchan has returned to host the 16th season of the TV game show Kaun Banega Crorepati. The veteran actor recently addressed questions about why he continues to work at his age, sharing his thoughts on his blog. On Sunday, he explained that he doesn’t have a profound answer to that question; for him, it’s simply another job opportunity. He challenged those who questioned his motivation to reconsider, asking, “Do you have a problem with that?”

“They keep asking me on set of work… the reason for me to be working… and I have no answers for this, except it’s another job opportunity for me… what else could possibly be the reason… others have their own assessment of occasions and conditions, and often like to exercise their model to be prime… wear my shoes, and find out… maybe you are right… and maybe not… you have the liberty to have your conclusions and I have the liberty of my work,” he wrote.

In his post, Bachchan stated that people often ask him on set why he’s still working. The Kalki actor continued, “My work was given to me… when it is given to you, answer that question… my reasons may not agree with you… but because the right to express has been given multiple tunnels of presence, you are heard… you said, I heard, I gave reason for working on… that is me… what reason I have is mine… enclosed shuttered and locked.”

Bachchan concluded with a metaphorical touch stating that despite the fleeting nature of opinions, his work stands firm. “And the ‘impotency of content’ compels you to build your own sand castles and enjoy its manufacturing… in time sandcastles fall down… may you that build them, find a measure of permanency… if it has been built for you and your business… mine is done and it stands still – I WORK… PERIOD… got a problem with that? well then… get to work and find out.”

Last year, Bachchan said an emotional goodbye to the beloved quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati. However, due to overwhelming popular demand, the megastar is back to host the show once again. The 16th season made its debut last week. As Bachchan hurried to the KBC set, a familiar ritual at the beginning of each episode, the studio audience erupted into a resounding applause for the iconic actor and the quiz master. Taking his place, Amitabh began his welcome address in Hindi, gazing into the camera. He shared, “Today marks the start of a new season. But I’m a little short of words today. And that’s because no word has the capacity to convey the gratitude for your love.”

A visibly emotional Bachchan then added, “I can’t come up with the words to thank you for your prayers which gave a new life to Kaun Banega Crorepati, which illuminated this stage again, and which reunited a family and allowed me to be present among you. I salute this country’s people for the resurrection, rebuilding, and rebirth of KBC (greets the camera with a namaste). This stage is yours, this game is yours, and this season is only yours. To respect your love, I’ll be present before you with twice the effort. And I believe you’ll keep reassuring me by holding my hand.”
