Raveena Tandon, who will soon be seen in Disney+ Hotstar’s upcoming web series Karmma Calling, has been promoting her show and in a recent interview, the actor spoke about the time when she worked with film producer Ram Gopal Varma in his film Shool. Raveena said that while RGV could not picture her in the film in the first place, he failed to recognise her when she was in costume.

Talking to Film Companion, Raveena said, “When we were shooting the promos, I got out of the make-up room and I went to stand in front of the camera. It was a long corridor from the make-up room to the set and I was crossing the corridor and Ramu crossed me.” Raveena said that when she greeted him, he looked at her but didn’t respond which led her to believe that he was not happy with her casting in the film.

She continued, “I went on the set and I was doing my job and emoting for the poster of Shool. It was a very emotional shoot and suddenly, in the middle of that emotional shoot, I hear ‘Oh my god, Ravs! Is that you?’ I said ‘yeah, I said hello to you in the corridor, you didn’t even acknowledge me. He said ‘I didn’t recognise you.’ Then he said ‘okay, we are going for it’. That is how I got Shool.”

Directed by E Niwas, Shool also starred Manoj Bajpayee and Sayaji Shinde. Raveena, in an earlier chat with Lehren Retro, said that RGV found it hard to see beyond her image as a dancer when he first met her. “It was a challenge for me to sign a film like Shool because Ram Gopal Varma told me that when I close my eyes, I can only see you doing Kisi Disco Mein Jaaye and Ankhiyon Se Goli Maare. His film Shool where I played the role of a Bihari house wife gave me the scope to break that mold,” she said.
