Actor Raveena Tandon is mother of four children, daughters Rasha, Pooja and Chhaya and son Ranbir. Although all her children are now grown up, the actor confesses that sometimes, they have had to face tough circumstances at school or with friends because of being star kids and there might be insecurities and jealousies amongst children.

In a interview with The Film Companion, Raveena got candid about being a celebrity-parent and reflected back on the good old times when co-stars knew everything about each others’ personal lives because there was more communication and less technology.

Asked if her children’s friends get star struck in her presence, Raveena said, “Actually not. They have seen me since the kids were young and all of their friend have been around. So that has not happened. On the contrary, it might be sometimes a drawback to the kids, they face that. Everyone thinks its always glamour and fun but they don’t see the other side of the insecurities and jealousies and the peer group pressure that happens that our kids do have to go through.”

Raveena herself is a star kid, with her father Ravi Tandon being a renowned filmmaker and producer of his times. Recalling one of her own experiences from school, she said, “Forget that, it happened to me, I was in school and my teacher one day asked in class, ‘how is your dad? Who all are the people who come to your house?’. So, I rattled off the names and later on I just found all the kids so hostile towards me. ‘Oh you just keep showing off that this one came to your house, that one came’. I said but the teacher asked me. I was in 4th or 5th standard. Sometimes that kind of a thing that you also go through. It’s a bit of both.”

Raveena made her acting debut with 1991 film Patthar Ke Phool and eventually gave several blockbuster in the 1990s and after that. As one of the reigning female stars of the 90s, the actor has worked with several fellow actors and made friends in the film industry.

Recalling the times when smartphones had not become such a prominent part of everyone’s lives, she said that everyone working together would talk to each other and even knew the details of each other’s personal lives.

“There was no other form of entertainment. There were no smartphones, there were no luxury vans. As soon as the shot gets over, everyone buzzes off to their phones or vans. So we’ve all been left to our own defenses. We had no other option but to put the chairs together and sit down, whether we were shooting in the sands of the dessert or whether we were shooting in the midst of the jungle. You had no choice but to sit with each other,” said Raveena, who will soon be seen in web series Karmma Calling.

She added, “We knew everyone’s life stories, which hero we were working with, who is he having an affair with , whose wife beat up whom, we knew everything about each other. That is bond, whoever started in the 90s clan has even now. We are all friends and we all stand by each other. We keep encouraging each other, whether its Madhuri, me, Neelam, Sonali or Shilpa. Encouraging each other’s projects on social media. We might not meet everyday but we definitely have that love, bond and respect for each other.”
