Actor Agastya Nanda recently made his debut with Netflix’s The Archies. While the film received mixed reviews, he has already bagged his second film titled Ikkis with Sriram Raghavan. While everyone is expecting him, the grandson of Amitabh Bachchan to do great things, it is Agastya’s mother Shweta Bachchan Nanda who keeps the young actor humble and grounded.

In an interview with The Film Companion, Agastya said that while seeing his superstar ‘Nana’ success is grounding, his mother plays a bigger part in reminding him the importance of hard work.

“My mom is the biggest grounding factor, not even my granddad. It’s my mother. In every way. She will take my case. I am very under-grounded. I told my mom that these trolls have got nothing on you,” Agastya said.

Elaborating on how Shweta, who is married to Delhi-based businessman Nikhil Nanda, keeps giving her son a reality check, he said, “She’s like, ‘don’t think you are something great. You are not doing anyone a service. You work, work hard and that’s it’. That’s how I grew up around her, just listening that you have to earn your own place.”

While the world is in awe of Amitabh Bachchan and his charisma as a superstar, for 23-year-old Agastya, the shehenshah of Bollywood is just his ‘nana’

“So of course she keeps me grounded and ofcourse my granddad. He has achieved so much, but weirdly, I don’t see him as Amitabh Bachchan the superstar. I genuinely see him as my nana. No matter how many fans come and mob him, I always see him as my nana. It’s just a weird thing,” he said.

Recently, lyricist Javed Akhtar told Shweta Bachchan that Agastya has the potential to be the next superstar in Bollywood. “I told Agastya’s mother (Shweta Bachchan Nanda), ‘Your son is going to be a star’. The concept of the hero so far has been of the toxic, macho man. Here is an unpretentious and masoom hero. Audiences have not seen a hero like Agastya since Rishi Kapoor in Bobby. Agastya will appeal to all youngsters, especially girls,” he had said in an interview to Redoff.

When asked if he sees himself being a star, Agastya said, “I don’t want to be over-smart and decide what I want to do. I want to go with the flow. Let the people I am working with decide what kind of mold they want to put me in.”

He added, “It’s very sweet of Javed sahab to say that. I don’t think I am deserving of that compliment but I think Archie was that vibe , it was that young thing. Let’s see what happens, let’s see what happens ahead but I don’t want to bottle myself down to one thing or may be try everything and fail at all and come back to the same thing but let’s see.”

The Archies was directed by Zoya Akhtar. The Hindi adaptation of the popular comic also starred several other new actors, including Khushi Kapoor and Suhana Khan.
