Actor Agastya Nanda made his big acting debut with Netflix’s The Archies and confesses he was taken aback by the mixed reviews. Grandson of superstar Amitabh Bachchan, Agastya shared that it took him some time to understand that the negative reactions can’t stop him and he has to try again.

In an interview with The Film Companion, Agastya confessed that the negative reactions to his debut film left him confused. “Honestly, I didn’t know how to deal with it. When you are not prepped in this area, you don’t know that many people have many opinions. And that’s okay, you must have your opinion but I didn’t know what was going on. Some people hated it, some people liked it, some people were indifferent to it and that’s ok,” said Agastya, son of Shweta Bachchan Nanda and Nikhil Nanda.

The new actor also shared that he loved The Archies and the intention behind making the film were good, but reaching this reasonable place in his mind took him some time.

“On some levels, it didn’t work and that’s ok. It’s my first try and I am going to work hard and get back up, try for the second and if that doesn’t work then try for the third and then the fourth but to get to that realisation took me some time,” said the actor, who recently made his Instagram debut.

The 23-year-old actor, who was facing the camera for the first time, shared that he sees the glass-half full and added that, “I made six lovely friends, I got brilliant exposure. I got to showcase myself on a huge platform. I was grateful, its ok, people would kill for this opportunity. I shouldn’t sit here and feel low about it. I gave it my best and i’ll keep giving it my best.”

Agastya’s maternal uncle, actor Abhishek Bachchan too had a rough start at the beginning of his career but eventually proved himself through his work.

When reminded that Abhishek, during his maiden years would put up negative reviews on walls to motivate him, Agastya said that everyone has to be aware about criticism but he would take such a ‘dark’ approach.

“I think everyone has to do it. I don’t put up negative things because why keep reminding yourself of it. Be aware of it, don’t be ignorant. I did learn. I just watched the film and see what’s happening and I just watched where I can improve, like any person in any field would do. Obviously when you look at it I was like ‘Oh God what was I doing there, why did I say’ but I am not putting anything up on my wall. It’s a bit too dark,” he said.

Growing up seeing his grandfather, uncle and aunt (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) in front of the camera, enjoying the success of stardom, Agastya accepts to have had a rather easy-going image of being an actor. Something, he learned not to be true later.

“I thought everyone will give me hugs and kisses and love me. I didn’t know that this hate thing would happen. I thought it was so easy. You do a film, people love you, you become a star. I had a very rosy picture but when the first few reviews came out, I was like ‘boss no. It’s not like that at all’,” said the actor.

The Archies also starred other star kids such as Suhana Khan and Khushi Kapoor. After this, Agastya will be seen in Sriram Raghavan’s Ikkis, in which he shares the screen with superstar Dharmendra. The  film is  a biopic based on the  youngest recipient of Param Vir Chakra, Arun Khetarpal.
