Mahesh Babu’s fans are celebrating his return to the big screen after two years and their love is reflected in Guntur Kaaram’s box office on the opening day. The Trivikram Srinivas-directorial started with double-digit opening as per the early box office estimates.

As per trade website Sacnilk, Guntur Kaaram has collected Rs 50 crore gross (early estimates) on its first day of release. As expected, the bigger chunk of the collection comes from Mahesh Babu’s home turf Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, where he enjoys unparallel popularity.

Guntur Kaaram’s gross collection from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana is approximately Rs 44.50 crore, followed by Karnataka’s Rs 4.5 crore and then Tamil Nadu’s (0.50 crore) and another 0.50 crores from other territories in India.

Another film, which released on this Friday was Teja Sajja and director Prasanth Varma’s sci-fi fantasy film HanuMan. The film was released on a pan-India level and while it didn’t bring in much footfall on its opening day, it is expected to grow on the back of positive word of mouth.

HanuMan box office collection on day 1 was Rs 7.56 crore net in all languages. The movie’s major contribution came from the Telugu territories with Rs 5.50 crore net, followed by Rs 2 crore in Hindi and Rs 0.06 crore from the remaining languages.

With a strong first day opening and a good word-of-mouth, Mahesh Babu already seems to be in a safety net. However, lack of strong releases in the Hindi belt, can bring family audience to theatre for HanuMan, hopefully giving it the much-needed jump at the box office.

The first weekend is crucial for both HanuMan and Guntur Kaaram, considering Daggubati Venkatesh’s Saindhav and Nagarjuna’s Naa Saami Ranga will also enter the box office ring, trying to encash the Makar Sankranti window in the maximum way.

Trade experts had predicted Guntur Kaaram‘s strong hold at the box office as compared to other Sankranti releases in Telugu film industry. It will be interesting to see if the dynamics change over the weekend.
