Choreographer Bosco Martis, who choreographed Vicky Kaushal’s “Tauba Tauba,”has been around for a while and has done some memorable songs like “Senorita,” “Jhoome Jo Pathaan,” “Gallan Goodiyaan” among many others. In a recent interview, Bosco said that he “shamelessly” wants to make sure that “choreographers are celebrated because they bring in that vibe.” Bosco also said that Vicky has appeared in many dance numbers before this but none of them have had such an impact. Bosco had previously expressed his disappointment when he wasn’t properly credited for his work in Fighter’s songs “Sher Khul Gaye” and “Ishq Jaisa Kuch.”

He shared with India Today, “Vicky’s dancing is possible because of a man who made it happen.” He added, “I am happy about the song’s success but, somewhere down the line, I shamelessly want to make sure that the choreographers, not just me, need to be celebrated because they bring in that vibe. Had I not given that vibe and style, I don’t think we would have got this hype.” Bosco said that chorographers must be celebrated “just like how Madhuri [Dixit] and Saroj [Khan] ma’am were celebrated.”

Bosco then said that Vicky has appeared in many songs and questioned “Vicky has featured in many other songs, like ‘Govinda Naam Mera’. What changed this time? Why is he being glorified in this song?” Answering his own question, Bosco spoke about how he executed the song. “It’s because of how it is directed and how the moves are captured. A lot of thought has been given professionally, even in terms of ways to glorify the actor. Our duty is to keep trying our best and look for reactions,” he said.

Bosco, who was credited for “Tauba Tauba” by the makers on the YouTube channel, has previously criticised Hindi filmmakers for not giving due credit to choreographers. In January, the choreographer spoke up about it and later, in a chat with Siddharth Kannan, he spoke about his equation with Siddharth Anand and said, “Unko aisa lagta hoga ki Bosco ko abhi awaaz nahin uthani chahiye thi, but I strongly believed ki abhi awaaz nahin uthaunga toh there will be no voice to this (Siddharth may have felt that it wasn’t necessary to speak up then, but I believe it was time I raised my voice). This wasn’t against the makers but the machinery that designed the film’s promotion. They must now remember that it is crucial to add choreographers’ names while promoting the film’s song; otherwise, it would turn into a mass roar.”

Previously, on Shakti Mohan’s YouTube channel Nritya Shakti, Bosco said that the visuals of a song are heavily used in film promotions but they are still not given credit. He added that his name is absent from the credit list of the song “Senorita” from the film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara even though he won a National Award for his choreography in the song.
