After a long wait, the teaser of Stree 2 was released on Tuesday. The teaser opens with a tall statue of the titular ‘stree’ who haunted the town on Chanderi in the first film. And as teased at the end of the first film, the spirit of ‘stree’ is back to haunt the town again. Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana and Abhishek Banerjee are back, and so is Shraddha Kapoor. Tamannaah Bhatia also appears in the teaser.

The teaser hints that the town will have to get together once again to fight the spirit of ‘stree.’ The story of the film isn’t revealed here but it appears that Stree 2 will offer more of the same.

The first Stree released in 2018 and was one of the biggest hits of the year. Directed by Amar Kaushik, the film was later labeled as the start of the horror-comedy universe of Maddock Films. So far, the makers have had Roohi, Bhediya and Munjya in the cinematic universe, and out of those, only Munjya has worked at the box office.

Stree 2 is directed by Amar Kaushik, who also directed the first film. He is also known for directing Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer Bala and Varun Dhawan-starrer Bhediya.

Stree released in 2018 and surprised everyone with its horror-comedy style, which became a mainstay in Hindi cinema after that. At the time, the film made Rs 130 crore at the domestic box office, and became the biggest hit of Rao’s career. Even six years later, this continues to be his biggest hit.

In 2024, Rajkummar Rao has alreasy appeared in two films – Srikanth and Mr and Mrs Mahi. After Stree 2, he also has Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video in the pipeline.

Stree 2 releases on August 15.
