Kangana Ranaut’s next, Emergency, will be released in cinemas on September 6, 2024, the actor announced on Tuesday. She announced this news on Instagram with a new poster of the film. In May, the release of the film was postponed as Kangana was preoccupied with her role in the Lok Sabha Elections.

In her Instagram post, Kangana wrote, “The Beginning of the 50th Year of Independent India’s Darkest Chapter, Announcing #KanganaRanaut’s #Emergency In Cinemas on 6th September 2024. The Explosive Saga of The Most Controversial Episode of The History of Indian Democracy, #EmergencyOn6Sept in cinemas worldwide.” The actor plays the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Emergency.

Kangana took to her Instagram in January 2023, to share a heartfelt note on her experience and struggle with the making of the film, “From mortgaging all my properties, every single thing that I owned to being diagnosed with dengue during the first schedule and having to film it inspite of alarmingly low blood cell counts, my character as an individual has been severely tested ….”.

Kangana not only stars in Emergency, but has also directed and produced the film. This film is based on the darkest chapter of Indian democracy when an Emergency was declared by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975. Kangana will be playing the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film also stars Anupam Kher as Jayprakash Narayan, Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw and Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This film will be Kangana’s first film after the Lok Sabha Elections.
