Karan Johar’s Koffee with Karan has stirred up numerous controversies over the years, with Karan’s rapid-fire questions often pushing celebrities to reveal juicy details. The show’s coveted coffee hamper also garners significant attention on social media due to curiosity about its contents. After a ‘cold’ season eight, streamed last year, director, producer, and host Karan, recently confirmed that the new season of the talk show will premiere next year, while also discussing the hits and misses in the previous season.

In a recent interview with critic and YouTuber Sucharita Tyagi, Karan discussed the upcoming season and critiqued the eighth installment, by saying, “It was the most boring rapid fire in the history of the show. Season 9 will come back with a new syntax.” Last year, Koffee With Karan season 8 kicked off with Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone as the first guests. Other notable guests included Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Sharmila Tagore, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, Rani Mukerji and Kajol, Sara Ali Khan and Ananya Panday, and Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor.

When asked his plans for the next season, Karan revealed that they plan to take a year off and return in 2025. He shared his intention to introduce a new format, acknowledging the feedback about last season’s lackluster rapid fire.  “I was like, ‘why am I even doing this?’ You’re not giving me questions. Should we just drop the rapid fire, and I will take the hamper because no one really deserves to win it. Now, I am like let’s change the world of Koffee with Karan with the ninth season. And it will be back with all the fun and the chattiness,” he revealed.

Karan also noted that celebrities are often too scared to open up these days, unlike in the past. He cited Mahesh Bhatt’s candidness as an example of the kind of frankness that is now rare on the show. “With the way Bhatt saab is, he will still give me such answers. But I think I would get into trouble. Like, you called him, and you got these answers. Why didn’t you edit?” Karan jokes.

The show thrives on getting A-list Bollywood celebrities to open up about their lives, relationships, and opinions on each other. The audience gets a glimpse into the world of the stars, often with juicy gossip and candid confessions. Karan, known for his friendly yet spicy interviewing style, isn’t afraid to ask probing questions and stir up conversations, keeping the audience engaged.
