Controversies are the lifeblood of Bigg Boss. Across languages, the reality show thrives on the disputes, fights, and quarrels that ensue between the contestants. Even if the participants resolve to be civil with each other, the Bigg Boss ‘tasks’ them in ways that would eventually lead to much-needed drama. Bigg Boss Tamil Season 7 had a lot of it. After a few dull seasons, the show seems to have gotten its mojo back. This time around even Kamal Haasan was part of controversies for allegedly siding with certain contestants.
As the season comes to a close on Sunday with a grand finale, here’s a look at some of the controversial moments of the season:
Pradeep Antony’s eviction
Perhaps, the biggest drama and controversy of this season was the unceremonious eviction of actor Pradeep Antony of Aruvi fame. Pradeep came across as a strong contestant as he was on-the-face and had a ready-to-fight attitude from the first episode of this season. However, he was issued a red card by many contestants who claimed that women felt unsafe around him. Pradeep was evicted immediately, which led to a huge backlash. Many online accused Kamal Haasan of being biased and removing Pradeep without hearing his side of the story. This created two factions in the house, with one side claiming Pradeep’s eviction was fair, and the other claiming that he was wrongfully convicted. Vichitra argued Pradeep wasn’t as unsafe as others claimed. This incident decided the course of the entire season. The rift between the Maya-Poornima gang, notoriously called the Bully gang, and Vichitra continued till the very end of the season.
Nixen body-shames Vinusha
Rapper Nixen’s comments about TV actor Vinusha left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. While talking to one of the contestants, Nixen shared why Vinusha is not his type, making comments about her body. This controversy blew up after the eviction of Pradeep. His words were displayed to everyone in the house by Bigg Boss, which tainted his reputation. Vinusha, who was evicted from the house by then, took to Twitter to lash out at Nixen. She made a long post about how she wasn’t aware of his comments and that his apologies wouldn’t redeem him of his act. Vinusha wrote, “During the first week, Nixen and I had a good rapport, and I genuinely considered him as a brother. I behaved with him in that manner, and initially, I didn’t mind when he started trolling me, thinking it was all in good fun. However, as time went on, he began crossing boundaries, and I had to ask him to stop because his actions were hurting me. I even reprimanded him for this behavior. One day, he apologized, but it was only for the trolling, not the body-shaming comment he had made.”
Vishnu threatening to hit Akshaya
TV actor Vishnu, who is still part of the Bigg Boss race, was enraged by Akshaya during a task and threatened to hit her. The incident happened during a physically exhausting task named Battery Dead. The contestants had to rush and grab a photo of another contestant and place it on a charging portal. While running toward the photo, Vishnu tripped and fell. He blamed Akshaya for pushing him down and held her hand forcefully. The incident escalated when Nixen stood up for Akshaya, and a verbal spat broke out between Nixen and Vishnu. In the end, Vishnu broke down and apologised to Akshaya. A slo-mo video of the incident revealed that it wasn’t Akshaya who pushed him down, but Aisha who unintentionally tripped him.
Cool Suresh trying to climb out of Bigg Boss house
Remember actor Bharani from the first season of Bigg Boss Tamil? He is well-known for his attempt to get out of the Bigg Boss house by climbing the wall. On failing, he was later evicted from the show for breaking the rules of the house. This season we had a similar contestant. Actor Cool Suresh, who couldn’t handle the pressures of the game, tried to get out of the house like Bharani. Later, Bigg Boss advised him not to take such steps. Cool Suresh managed to stay in the house for 76 days until he was evicted.
Bully Gang
Most of the drama of this season was created by Maya Krishnan, Poornima, Jovika, Nixen, and a few more supporters of this group. Notoriously known as Bully Gang, the bunch schemed against other contestants. Their biggest targets were Vichitra and wild card entry Archana, who questioned the actions of Maya. The fight started ever since Archana started questioning the eviction of Pradeep. Currently, Archana, Maya, Vishnu, Mani Chandra, and Dinesh are the finalists, and one of them will lift the trophy of Bigg Boss Tamil Season 7.
