Following the Telugu Desam Party-led National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) landslide victory in Andhra Pradesh in the recent Assembly elections, TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the state for the fourth term on Wednesday. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, and JP Nadda, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and several other senior BJP leaders.

On the occasion, Telugu star and Jana Sena Party (JSP) chief Konidela Pawan Kalyan also took the oath as a minister in the Naidu government. Kalyan won as an MLA from the Pithapuram Assembly seat in Kakinada district. Besides PM Modi and other political leaders, many cinema icons were also present to witness Kalyan’s oath-taking. Despite the Prime Minister’s presence, Kalyan’s brother and Telugu megastar Konidela Chiranjeevi was seated on the dais. Tamil superstar Rajinikanth and his wife Latha were also in attendance. TDP Hindupuram legislator and Telugu actor Nandamuri Balakrishna too was seen on stage. Chiranjeevi’s son and Kalyan’s nephew Ram Charan was also among the attendees.

During the ceremony, the film stars shared personal moments with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he interacted with everyone on the dais. After Kalyan took his oath, the Prime Minister embraced both him and his brother Chiranjeevi, and the three of them greeted the people of Andhra Pradesh together, hand-in-hand.

Kalyan, who started his political career in 2008 as a member of Chiranjeevi’s now-defunct Praja Rajyam Party, floated JSP in 2014. Though he contested from two seats in the 2019 Assembly elections, Kalyan was defeated in both. This time, however, he won from the Pithapuram segment with a thumping majority of 70,279 votes. Currently, Kalyan’s JSP is the second largest party in the Assembly, holding 21 seats.
