Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur‘s Family Star released on April 5. Sadly this Telugu romantic drama could not manage to captivate audiences and critics. The lukewarm response to the film has indeed affected its run at the box office as well. The Parasuram directorial seems to have further slowed on Day 2.

As per early estimates from trade tracker Sacnilk, Family Star earned around Rs 4 crore on Saturday (day 2). On Day 2, while the film had a 28.62% occupancy in Telugu states, in Tamil Nadu, the movie had an occupancy of 18.39%. The total collection of the movie currently stands at Rs 9.75 crore.

With Family Star failing to cross the Rs 10 crore mark in two days, it becomes Vijay Deverakonda’s lowest opener at the box office. Deverakonda’s last film Khushi with Samantha Ruth Prabhu had opened to numbers that were almost three times higher. Just on its first day, the film had made Rs 15.25 crore. In two days, the film had even crossed the Rs 20 crore mark. His Bollywood debut film Liger with Ananya Panday in 2022 opened to a collection of Rs 15.95 crore, and in two days the film had earned more than Rs 23 crore.

As for Mrunal Thakur, her earlier two Telugu films – Hi Nanna with Nani and Sita Ramam with Dulquer Salmaan were quite loved by audiences.

Family Star opened to poor reviews. A part of Indianexpress.com’s review read, “While the film harps on middle-class life, its hero is hardly a face in the crowd. He beats villains to a pulp as his family watches. Vijay Deverakonda brings earnestness to even this implausible character, but the writer-director doesn’t offer him enough to carry the film. Mrunal Thakur looks ravishing on screen and compared to Sita Ramam, her presence in this one is a lot more glamorous. However, a sketchily written character offers her little scope to perform. Even the central conflict between Deverakonda and Thakur is illogical and unrealistic, and has to be trumped up by the actors with unrealistic and ego-centric dialoguebaazi in cooked-up scenarios.”
