Prithviraj Sukumaran’s ambitious film Aadujeevitham is holding steady at the box-office. After becoming the fastest Malayalam film to reach the Rs 100 crore mark globally, the survival drama recorded a jump of more than 50 per cent on Saturday. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Aadujeevitham minted Rs 4.10 crore on April 6, taking the total collection to Rs 53.80 crore. The film had an overall 49.72 per cent Malayalam occupancy on Saturday.

Prithviraj took to social media and wrote, “100 Cr and counting at the Global Box Office! Thank you for this unprecedented success.”

Aadujeevitham is an adaptation of the 2008 best-selling Malayalam novel of the same name by Benyamin. The film also stars Jimmy Jean-Louis, Amala Paul and KR Gokul among other actors.

This year, Malayalam movies have been doing really well at the box office. Brahmayugam made around Rs 60 crore, while Premalu earned about Rs 135 crore. Manjummel Boys did exceptionally well, bringing in a whopping Rs 223 crore.

The Blessy-directed movie initially faced tough competition at the box office from other big films like Crew starring Kareena Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Tabu, as well as the Telugu film Tillu Square and Hollywood film Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Family Star, starring Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur, was also released this weekend. On Saturday, Deverakonda’s film minted Rs 4 crore.

In an interview with PTI, Prithviraj had opened up about Blessy’s vision of Aadujeevitham. He said, “Even in 2009, Blessy’s vision for the film was grand. Back then, it was impossible to do the filming in Malayalam and be hoping to find some sense in the business model. It took us 10 years to finally get to a point where we could think of doing this and maybe think of making the money back. Finances were never in question because Blessy is producing it himself and I know, in all honesty, that he has put his life savings into it.”
