The Telugu film industry consistently comes up with blockbuster songs that become global hits. RRR’s “Naatu Naatu”, Pushpa’s “Srivalli” and “Oo Antava” are some of the recent examples. “Kurchi Madathapetti” from Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram is the latest addition to the list. The song and the scintillating moves of the lead pair Mahesh Babu and Sreeleela took the country by storm. And now, the hyperlocal number, composed by S Thaman, is reaching beyond its target demography as it was played at the halftime of a recent NBA game in the US.

A video from the game has gone viral on social media, and Telugu fans have been sharing it with pride on X and other platforms. The official X handle of Guntur Kaaram shared the video and wrote, “Witness the #KurchiMadathaPetti mania spreading globally! Superstar @urstrulymahesh’s electrifying #KurchiMadathaPetti dance lit up the Toyota Center in Houston during the NBA game halftime (sic).”

In the video, Indian dancers were seen performing to the hit song and emulating the dance movies of Mahesh Babu and Sreeleela.

While Guntur Kaaram failed to meet the expectations of fans as it lost the box office battle to Hanu-Man, “Kurchi Madathapetti” has become a good outcome of the movie. Directed by Trivikram Srinivas, the film, also starring Meenakshi Chaudhry and Prakash Raj, was deemed an average grosser by trade trackers.

Mahesh Babu will next be seen in SS Rajamouli’s film, which is still in the pre-production phase. Recently, talking about the movie in Japan, Rajamouli revealed that the scripting has been finished and they are yet to start the casting process. Only Mahesh Babu has been confirmed for the project till now.
