Actor-comedian Kapil Sharma’s The Kapil Sharma Show has now shifted to Netflix and rebranded as The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show. The show will see some bigwigs such as Aamir Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Diljit Dosanjh, and others as guests but this time the major pull for the audience is not just the star-studded guest list. The show will see Kapil reunite with actor-comedian Sunil Grover, who had quit the show following an alleged fight with the host.
In a recent press conference, when Sunil was asked about the fight with Kapil in 2017, he joked and said, “We were seated on the flight and we learned that Netflix was coming to India. So, kuch aisa ho ke (acha) publicity stunt ho.” However, this fight was far from a publicity stunt and involved social media exchanges and resulted in Sunil walking out of Kapil’s show.

March 17, 2017: The Fight and Flight incident
It was March 17, when the team of The Kapil Sharma Show was flying back to Mumbai from Melbourne, Australia. The 12-hour-long flight had the entire team of the show and Kapil was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. An altercation took place onboard the plane, which soon was all over the headlines.
Two days later, Kapil also posted an official apology to Sunil on X (formerly known as Twitter), to which Sunil responded with a long, angry tweet. Kapil had written in his apology, “Paji @WhoSunilGrover sry if I hurt u unintentionally.u knw vry well how much I luv u. M also upset .love n regards always.”

To this Sunil wrote a long message where he advised Kapil to not consider himself “God” and confessed to feeling hurt.

March 18, 2017 : Kapil Sharma introduces girlfriend Ginni Chatrath to fans
Interestingly, in between the fallout and the apology, Kapil announced his relationship with Ginni Chatrath, now his wife. On the morning on March 18, a day after the fight happened, Kapil introduced Ginni with a photograph and wrote, “Will not say she is my better half…she completes me…love ginni…please welcome her…I love her so much,” The news of course, spread like wild fire, but as an attempt to deflect attention, it wasn’t succesful.

August 3, 2017: Kapil’s birthday wish for Sunil Grover
The same year, in August, Kapil had taken to social media to wish Sunil on his birthday. He wrote, “Wish u a very happy birthday @WhoSunilGrover paji … may god bless u with all the happiness of this world. Lots of love always.”

October 2017: Kapil addresses fight with Sunil during Firangi promotions
Ahead of his film Firangi’s release in December 2017, Kapil addressed the fight with Sunil during the film’s trailer launch. He said that he actually fought with Chandan Prabhakar (another comedian of the team) and not Sunil. Kapil said, “I abused Chandan and so did he. Sunil Grover got angry because I shouted at someone in the flight. He is someone I love the most in the show. Wherever he is, I hope he’s happy, and I know he loves me.”
March, 2018: Sunil Grover says he never got a call to return to the show
Kapil’s show saw a hiatus after this fight, but he announced his return in March 2018. When several fans asked Sunil on social media if he was invited to join the show, he clarified that he hasn’t received any call.

However, this time Kapil seemed offended by Sunil’s tweet and replied to him, “Paji I called u more then 100 times n came to ur house to meet u twice .. every time u were out for some show n all .. pls don’t spread rumors that I didn’t call u.”
March, 2020: Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover’s first appearance together after the fight
After three years of staying bitter with each other, fans of Kapil and Sunil were in for a surprise when the two were seen together at a gathering in 2020. Kapil and Sunil attended entrepreneur Kapil Kumria’s daughter Kanika’s wedding.

February 2022: Kapil Sharma on Sunil Grover’s surgery
In 2022, Sunil Grover underwent a bypass surgery and Kapil expressed concern and shock over it. In an interview with ETimes, Kapil had said that he had contacted Sunil but since the latter had just been discharged from hospital, he could not reply.
December 2023: Netflix announces their reunion
OTT giant announced Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover’s reunion for the show The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show. They shared a video on their social media and the caption read, “Dil thaam ke baithiye, jis ghadi ka intezar tha, vo aagayi hai! (Hold your heart, for the moment you’ve been waiting for, it has arrived!) Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover BACK TOGETHER, coming soon, only on Netflix!” Amid reports of a massive pay cheques and backroom discussions, the two are all set to come together, with the platform hoping to bring in their faithful TV audiences to ramp up their subscriber numbers. The promise to deliver Gutthi, a character that has become an important part of Sunil’s career, along with Kapil, is the ace up Netflix’s sleeve. Even more than the celeb guests, it is this jodi that is expected to bring in the audiences.

The trailer of The Great Indian Kapil Sharma show gave a glimpse into the madness this show is going to entertain the viewers with. Archana Puran Singh will again be seen in the judge’s chair. Besides this Abhishek Krushna, Kiku Sharda and others will be seen in the show as well. The show premieres on March 30 on Netflix.
