Kate Middleton’s maiden visit to India was a grand affair and one is unlikely to forget the media frenzy around it. Kate, who continues to make headlines for her ‘disappearance’, garnered a lot of attention in the media, during her visit in 2016. Accompanied by her husband Prince Willam, Kate, who attended a charity ball at Mumbai’s Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, received a starry reception with Bollywood celebrities like Aishwarya Rai  Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Karan Johar, Anil Kapoor,  Parineeti Chopra, Sonam Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez and Manish Malhotra, among others in attendance.

Dressed in a royal blue Jenny Packham outfit, embellished with beads and sequins which added an India touch to her outfit, the Dutches of Cambridge looked elegant and radiated warmth as she made an appearance alongside William who chose a tuxedo. Photographs from the gala show the royal couple interacting and posing with Bollywood stars for the camera. Shah Rukh, describing his experience of meeting Kate and William, told PTI, “It was very nice. They are so elegant and beautiful. It was really nice to see them (sic).”  He called the opportunity of introducing the British couple, “an honour.” “There will be lot of actors and friends so it will be fun. I think it’s a big honour to be there and introduce them and be nice (sic),” he added.

According to a report by NDTV, SRK was left speechless owing to his lack of knowledge about food. “At dinner, I tried to explain the dishes they were eating. I don’t know food very well and one time I tried to explain what ‘paalak’ (spinach) is in English. I was looking around for someone to tell me what paalak is in English. I didn’t want to disappoint them with my lack of knowledge of food (sic),” SRK confessed.

Madhuri, who attended the event with her husband Dr Shriram Nene, said, “It was a pleasure meeting Prince William and Kate Middleton. They were gracious and down to earth. It was a very memorable night. The Gala dinner, though short-lived, was an evening to remember.”

William, after receiving a warm reception, called the evening “wonderful” and “colourful evening”. “When Catherine and I got married, India was the first place in her list which she told me she wanted to visit. Two children and five years later we finally made it and we are quite honoured to be here,” said.

After Kensington Palace announced Kate would temporarily take a break from her royal duties after she underwent surgery, news of the royal member’s disappearance has been a topic of discussion and conspiracy theories. After her ‘digitally altered’ Mother’s Day photo, in a viral video, Kate was recently spotted at a farm shop looking “happy, relaxed and healthy.”
