Speaking at the event, Dhanush said, “People listen to Ilaiyaraaja’s music at night and sleep peacefully. On the other hand, I keep listening to his songs and imagine myself playing him in his biopic. Manifestation. I wanted to do only two biopics in my life. One is Ilaiyaraaja Sir’s, and another is superstar Rajinikanth’s. One is happening now. This is giving me a lot of pride… that I have come to such a place to do this. I am a fan, and devotee of Ilaiyaraaja. His music is my companion.”

“Many are saying it’s a challenge for me to act in #Ilaiyaraaja sir biopic, but I don’t think so. Because his music will tell me how to act like him🛐🎵”

He added, “On top of that, his music is also my mentor for acting. During those days, when I didn’t know what acting was, I used to listen to his songs that were in sync with the scenes. His music used to tell me how to perform. Vetrimaaran has seen me doing it. So, when people say it is going to be a challenge for me to play him, I don’t think so. Again, his music will tell me how to act like him. Even now, when we were getting inside, I asked him to go in front of me, and I will follow him. He asked, ‘Am I your guide or what?’ Yes, you are, Sir. You have guided me all this while.”

Kamal Haasan, who presided over the launch as a chief guest, said, “I am asking the director to just make his vision, and not take too much pressure. This is not a film about Ilaiyaraaja, it is about Bharat Ratna Ilaiyaraaja. It is not just an honor, but a demand. Demand from us.”

The film is set to be released in multiple languages across the country including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. Kamal Haasan opined that it is not enough, and it has to be made in many other Indian languages.

As far as the crew of the film goes, Ilaiyaraaja himself will compose the music for his biopic. Nirav Shah is handling the camera for the film, while Muthurja taking care of the production design. The release date and other details of the film are yet to be unveiled. Dhanush already has Kubera and Raayan in the making. He is also directing his film Nilavuku Enmel Ennadi Kobam, and Illaiyaraaja is another feather in his cap.
