30 years ago, Shah Rukh Khan starred in a film with Suchitra Krishnamoorthi called Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. The film has been an iconic one, and now, as it completes three decades, actor Suchitra Krishnamoorthi shared some memories from this time in her life. She shared that multiple endings were discussed and revealed how Juhi Chawla came on board in a special cameo. Not only this, Suchitra also shared how she wished Aryan Khan could star in the film’s sequel, if it is ever made.

In an exclusive interview with Zoom, Suchitra spoke about the makers’ decision to go with an ending that featured Juhi Chawla. Talking about the same, she shared, “Well, there were many, many changes. I wasn’t involved in the creative process at that time frankly. I would just do my stuff and go home. But yes, I remember the film didn’t have a title for a long time and then many endings were discussed. The final ending was decided because Shah Rukh Khan was working very closely with Juhi Chawla at that point in many other films. So the makers decided to make it a more upbeat ending by introducing another character so that people understand that Sunil is a survivor. He’ll get through life happily with the next beautiful girl who comes along.”

Suchitra also discussed the possibility of a sequel and said that the film’s not-so-happy ending was a part f its charms. “It was a slice-of-life film, that’s why it worked. And in life, there are heartbreaks. Everything is not a happy ending. Probably there should be a sequel about how it fell apart for Anna and Chris, and Sunil, who by then has built a big name for himself, comes back into Anna’s life! But, I think some films should not be touched. Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa should not be touched, Sholay should not be touched…”

When asked which current generation actor she would want to see in the sequel if it ever gets made, Suchitra replied, “I used to keep getting asked this for many years: Who do you think could play the new Sunil and Anna? I would say probably Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt, but they are also too old for this now. You need somebody completely new, young, and vulnerable. Maybe Kaveri could play Anna. Well, I would have said Aryan Khan can play Sunil but then he is not into acting.”

A few days ago, Suchitra had also penned a heartfelt note about the film. She had written, “It’s been 30 years – on the 25th of February this year. Wow. Glad my hero is still a rocking hero and not relegated to playing mother and grandmother roles as many of his female peers are. As for me… what can I say? I had decided to give up films even before the film was released. No regrets. Was always & remain happily clueless. I became aware of the fact that I was part of such an iconic film much much later… in fact only in the last few years. Today somebody sent me a link that my film is part of iIMDb’s most iconic romantic films of all time in their 2024 list on Valentine’s Day. What can I say… except that I am grateful…God is kind…”
