Bobby Deol made his debut in the movies in 1995 with Barsaat and it was one of the most anticipated films of the year as it starred veteran actor Dharmendra’s son and Twinkle Khanna, daughter of Dimple Kapadia and Rajesh Khanna. At one point, Karisma Kapoor was supposed to make her debut with Bobby in Barsaat but the project took so long to take off that by the time it released, Karisma was already a star. Twinkle and Bobby did not get along when the filming started and by Bobby’s own account, they “were at each other’s throat throughout the making of Barsaat”. He also shared that during their shoot in Rohtang Pass, Twinkle fainted due to the lack of oxygen.
In an interview with Filmfare in 2001, Bobby shared, “Tina and I didn’t get along from day one. We were at each other’s throat throughout the making of Barsaat. We’d fight about silly things. I used to irritate her by talking about the morning ablutions and the importance of a clean stomach. She used to find that obnoxious. She hated it when I used abusive words, she’d get all hot and bothered. And I loved needling her.”
Bobby Deol then shared the incident when Twinkle fainted on the set. “Once I remember we were shooting in Rohtang Pass near Manali. The oxygen supply was close to scarce. And she fainted. We had to pack up, she really gave us a scare.” He also recalled the day of the film’s premiere and how Twinkle managed to shock him on that day. “On the day of the premiere, we travelled together in the same car. I was a nervous wreck. I’m sure even she was but she hid it well. Throughout the car journey, I just held her hand. And you know what happened after the premiere? I heard her use foul lingo. I was taken aback. Throughout the shooting, she’d nagged me about giving gaalis. And here she was doing the same. When I told her this, she just chortled,” Bobbt recalled.

But Twinkle Khanna and Bobby Deol managed to overcome their differences after the film. By the time of this interview, Bobby had shot with Akshay Kumar, who was married to Twinkle by then. “Today, we laugh about the stupid things we did then. She’s now married to my pal Akshay. Recently I met her on a cruise while shooting for Ajnabee. We had a ball. Then the press wrote that we were sun-bathing together. And that Akshay kept a check on us throughout. That was hilarious. I never strip in public. So where’s the question of sun-bathing? It’s good to see her happily married,” he said.
Bobby was recently appreciated for his work in Animal. Twinkle left acting after she tied the knot. She is now a writer and an entrepreneur.
