The Barbie soundtrack might have two Oscar nominations for Best Original Song, but there’s only one singer the film’s  music producer Mark Ronson wants belting out the power ballad I’m Just Ken on the big night — Ryan Gosling. Mark, in an interview with Variety, asserted if Ryan doesn’t sing it, the song won’t be performed at all.

“It’s my dream,” was quoted as saying, expressing his enthusiasm for a Ryan performance, adding, “That would be great. Did he confirm to you? I want to know… it’s my dream. It’s my dream.” When asked about alternative singers, he was adamant: “No. I think if Ryan doesn’t do it then we’re not doing it.”

This adds intrigue to the already nominated I’m Just Ken, which competes against Billie Eilish’s What Was I Made For in the Best Original Song category. Billie’s song previously won a Grammy, beating out other Barbie tracks, including Dua Lipa’s Dance the Night.

While the La La Land actor hasn’t officially committed or confirmed, past interviews hint at him being interested in performing at the Oscars. “Well, I haven’t been invited. And I wasn’t thinking about it until now, and now it’s all I’m going to think about,” The Notebook actor said, in an interview with W Magazine. “Do you get paid to sing at the Oscars? Do you have to drive yourself? What kind of scratch is involved? They pick you up at least, right?” he asked.

Ryan and Mark recently released a remixed version of the song, highlighting their collaborative spirit and the undeniable energy the actor brings to the performance.

With the 96th Academy Awards approaching on March 10, the question remains: will the Blue Valentine actor answer Mark’s call and channelise his inner Ken?
