Actor Aamir Khan’s elder son Junaid Khan will soon be making his Bollywood debut but for years, Junaid maintained a distance from the photographers in Mumbai and was hardly seen on social media. His younger, 12-year-old Azad Rao Khan, too remains away from the public eye and is only seen on special occasions. Azad’s mother and Aamir’s ex-wife Kiran Rao said that as parents, they believe kids should be given their privacy.

In an interview with Showsha, Kiran spoke about the same and said that since she and Aamir both aren’t seen at many parties, Azad can manage to stay away from the paparazzi.

“I feel like children should have their privacy. Kids who are interested in coming in public then sure, but Azad never really was interested in these big events, so we let him have his privacy. Aamir and I, as people, are very unassuming. We are not the kind of glamorous people who go out and party or go to events all that much. I think it follows from the fact that we don’t go, so he doesn’t have a reason to be out and about on the red carpet,” she said and added, “He is not as interested and neither am I too keen to take him. I think children need to find their own areas of interest.”

Being the son of actor Aamir and filmmaker mother Kiran, one would assume Azad to have similar interests, but Kiran said that he is more inclined towards animation that live storytelling due to his empathetic nature.

“In the beginning, he used to be a little scared of films because films have heightened emotions and he is very sensitive, like a super empathetic kid. He used to get very affected by… things what other kids find quite normal… as Star Wars starts with a TIE Fighter crashing and I had to leave the cinema house with him because he was like ‘what happened to the pilot?’ So, initially, he found it very hard to watch live-action. He can watch animation but live action is too close to home. Having said that now he is 12, I am sure he is ready to watch stuff,” she said. Kiran also said that he hasn’t watched her latest film Laapata Ladies.

Bankrolled jointly by Aamir Khan’s banner and her own venture Kindling Productions, Kiran’s Laapataa Ladies will release March 1. The film is set against the backdrop of rural India and revolves around the story of two young brides who get exchanged on a train.
