Sandeep Reddy Vanga is still enjoying his victory lap after the success of his Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal and in a recent interview, Vanga said that contrary to the popular assumption, he is not the one who handles the X (formerly Twitter) account of the film. When Vanga was asked about the many digs taken on Javed Akhtar and Swanand Kirkire by the handle, the director said that there are many “enthusiasts” in his team and admitted that the tweet for Swanand was “not needed.”

Talking to Siddharth Kannan, Sandeep said, “There are many enthusiasts in our team who handle Twitter. But I knew that those tweets went out. But, there was a tweet for Swanand Kirkire which was not needed. The boys were very energetic in sending messages. I feel sorry for Swanand. The tweet went a little too far. I felt it was on the funny side so it’s okay.”

Sandeep said that the purpose of the handle was to share promotional material but the handle then started replying to messages as well. “That Twitter handle was made for publicity, for sharing posters etc. I don’t know when it converted into this. They felt like they will reply. How are you gong to stop them?” he said.

He further asserted that he was not behind the tweets as he asked the host to check his phone and prove that he only had his own Twitter account logged in. “If you want, check my phone. I only have my Twitter account. I don’t have that Twitter account. People think it is Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s language but that is not the case. I have gotten a lot of abuses for it, as if I have tweeted but it’s okay,” he said.

Sandeep said that so far, he has not made any comments out of the blue and has only been responding to those who have “attacked” his film. “We have been defending the film until now, we are not bowling bouncers. I have only spoken about those people who attacked me. I didn’t start it. I am playing defence,” he said.

Soon after the release of Animal, Swanand said that films like Animal were taking Indian cinema in a “dangerous and scary” direction. The handle responded to the lyric writer-actor and wrote, “Do not let your knees fall ahead of your toes or cave in towards each other. Keep feet shoulder-width apart to maintain a good base of support for balance. Land softly on the balls of the feet to help absorb the force of the landing. Yes…. now it landed perfectly 😘”

Animal has been received criticsed severely for its violent and misogynistic content. The film made over Rs 900 crore worldwide.
