After Pathaan, War and Tiger, Yash Raj Films is all set to have its first female-led film in their spy universe. Starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in the lead roles, the film will be directed by The Railway Men fame director Shiv Rawail, as per Variety. The reports suggests that the two leading women will play ‘super agents’ in the film. While the spy universe already has Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif from Pathaan and Tiger respectively, the films are led by their male counterparts.

Zoya Akhtar, in an earlier roundtable with Film Companion, had seemingly suggested that YRF’s film with Alia was already in the works. Speaking about women leading big-budget actioners, Zoya had said, “In many films, they (female actors) would rather be in a big hero-led film than carry their own film. However, things are changing. YRF is doing a Spy Universe film with Alia (Bhatt) in it. She has done several (female-led films) in the past, and Vidya Balan has done it as well. So, things are changing.”

For Alia, this is a big change after getting acclaim for films like Gangubai Kathiawadi and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The actor made her Hollywood debut with Heart of Stone in 2023 but since she was playing the role of a hacker in the film, and Gal Gadot was playing the spy, Alia wasn’t seen doing many stunts here.

For Sharvari, this film seems to be her biggest project yet. She has previously appeared in YRF’s Bunty Aur Babli 2 and was seen in Kabir Khan’s Prime Video series The Forgotten Army.

Shiv, who is the son of filmmaker Rahul Rawail known for films like Love Story, Betaab, Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, Jo Bole So Nihaal, marks his directorial debut in the movies with this film. His Netflix show The Railway Men, which was a 4-part series based on the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy, was liked by the audience.

Variety suggests that the film will commence production later this year. Meanwhile, Alia will be seen in Vasan Bala’s Jigra.
