Amitabh Bachchan’s granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda returned with her podcast-turned-vodcast, What The Hell Navya. Her grandmother, Jaya Bachchan and mother, Shweta Bachchan joined her to discuss the various issues in the life of a working woman. During the first episode of the show, Navya discussed how beauty standards impact the professional lives of women, prompting Shweta to share how she has now become comfortable in her skin. The trio also spoke about friendships among women, as Jaya said that she considers her daughter Shweta her strength, even more than her son Abhishek Bachchan.

Shweta, who is an author and runs a luxury fashion store, shared how the beauty standards are being altered today. She said, “In the fashion world, you try to incorporate different skin tones, different sizes, and I think it’s incredible because when you are looking at something, and you are not conventionally blonde or you don’t have a chiselled jaw, it’s so nice to see that. Just being represented… I think beauty standards have broadened their horizon.”

She also talked about not having a ‘conventional’ face and highlighted that she doesn’t even have a petite nose. Shweta continued, “You can have a different and interesting face. I’m not a conventional-looking person. I don’t have a petite nose and whatever, but I am comfortable in my skin now, at my age. But a young girl is not going to be comfortable in her skin. I am happy that beauty industries are making an effort to make her feel comfortable because that’s where it starts.”

Jaya Bachchan agreed with Shweta and said, “Today the ‘so-called’ beautiful is not beauty.” The veteran star went ahead to express that she draws most of her strength from her daughter Shweta. She told her, “You are always giving your opinion…she is my strength, more than my son, Abhishek, she is my strength. I don’t know whether that’s because she’s a woman. But she’s my strength.”

Earlier, Jaya had also called Shweta her ‘best friend’. On season one of What The Hell Navya, Jaya said, “In the last two years, my best friends have been Navya and Shweta. I can say anything I like to them, and they will tell me off, especially Shweta. Somebody telling you ‘I don’t agree with you’ is important. I would want to grow at this age too.”

Both Jaya and Amitabh Bachchan often speak about their daughter. They also gifted their Mumbai bungalow, Prateeksha, to Shweta recently. The property in the Vitthalnagar Cooperative Housing Society is spread over two plots measuring 674 square metres and 890.47 square metres, which are collectively valued at approximately Rs 50.63 crore.

Shweta Nanda is married to businessman Nikhil Nanda and they are parents to Navya Naveli and Agastya. Abhishek is married to actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and they have daughter Aaradhya Bachchan.
