Luck By Chance, which starred Farhan Akhtar and Konkona Sen Sharma in the lead roles, marked Zoya Akhtar’s directorial debut. The film was released 15 years ago today on January 30, 2009. And while it did not do that well commercially, it received critical acclaim. The movie revolved around a young actor from Delhi who comes to Mumbai to make it big in Bollywood. The film also starred the late Rishi Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia, Juhi Chawla and Sanjay Kapoor in important roles. It also featured Hrithik Roshan in an extended cameo. Now as the film clocks 15 years, we went down memory lane with Sanjay Kapoor, who recalled that despite a successful stint with Zoya Akhtar’s directorial debut, he faced a dry spell on the professional front.
Having spent 30 years in the industry, Sanjay spoke about how he expected Luck By Chance to be a game-changer for him. The actor shared, ”I thought Luck By Chance would be the turning point for me. It came in 2009 and I have never received so many calls. Till five to six years people kept talking about it, and even when I meet them today, they speak about the film. But I did not sign a single relevant movie after Luck By Chance. From 2009 to 2013 or 14, I don’t remember if I did anything. That is also the reason I became a producer.”

Sanjay Kapoor even shared that the due he deserved for Luck By Chance came to him with Lust Stories. He said, “Actually, things should have changed for me with Lucky By Chance but I don’t know what happened. People told me I should do fun films and I am so good at them, but I never got any work. I was getting praise, but I did not get any film. Sometimes destiny does play a part. Things changed for me with Lust Stories. I got the credit, but not the fruit of it. The fruit of Luck By Chance came with Lust Stories. It was like a combination.”

Sanjay was last seen in Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi’s starrer Merry Christmas. While the actor revisited this chapter from his journey, he shared that today he is in a great space. He is working with the best of directors and doing some great films.

On the work front, Sanjay Kapoor will be seen next in Homi Adajania’s Murder Mubarak. He will be sharing screen space with his Luck By Chance co-star Dimple Kapadia in the film. Sanjay also shared that he has another project with Karisma Kapoor, that also stars Vijay Varma, Sara Alia Khan and Pankaj Tripathi. He is also doing a show called Laal Batti with Nana Patekar. It is directed by Prakash Jha.
