It is 2024, and even the departed are singing. Composer AR Rahman’s latest track “Thimiri Yezhuda” from Rajinikanth’s Lal Salaam has generated curiosity online as it features voices of two late singers– Bamba Bakya and Shahul Hameed.
The new track features AI voices of the two singers, which divided listeners online. On Monday, Sony Music India South took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared information regarding the song.

“The mesmerizing voices of Bamba Bakya & Shahul Hameed in #ThimiriYezhuda from #LalSalaam made possible by @timelessvoicesx AI voice models. 🎼 This marks the first time in the industry that a late legend’s voice has been brought back to life,” the post read.
AR Rahman re-shared the tweet and wrote, “We took permission from their families and sent deserving remuneration for using their voice algorithms ..technology is not a threat and a nuisance if we use it right…#respect #nostalgia 🙏.”

Bamba Bakya was a Tamil playback singer and musician. He passed away in 2022. Shahul Hameed, who had sung several Rahman tracks including “Urvasi Urvasi”, passed away in 1997.
Directed by Aishwarya, Lal Salaam stars Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in the lead roles, while Rajinikanth will be seen in an extended cameo. The film will release on February 9.
