SA Chandrasekar, Vijay’s father, recently spoke at a film event about the intolerance of the new-gen filmmakers to criticism. His statement has gone viral as it is perceived as a dig at director Lokesh Kanagaraj, who directed Vijay’s latest release, Leo. SAC spoke about his conversation with an unnamed director and how he cut the call when SAC started to speak about things that didn’t work for him.

SAC spoke about the director at the audio launch of director Ezhil’s Desinghu Raja 2, which has Vemal in the lead role. The veteran director, who introduced Vijay as an actor, said that a director can sustain himself in the industry only when he is ready to take criticism. He then recounted his phone call with a director to point out how the new-gen filmmakers are not receptive to criticism.

He said, “I happened to see the first copy of a film before its release and I called the director to share my views. As long as I was appreciating the film, he was thanking me. But the moment I started pointing out my issues with the film, he cut the call saying he was about to have food and that he would call later. But he never called back.”

SAC said that he found the portions in the film that portrayed an issue between a father and a son. “I told him such things don’t really happen and it won’t work. Upon release, the same portions faced criticism from the fans and critics.”

Fans online were quick to point out the similarities between the film SAC spoke about and Vijay’s Leo. In Leo, the father of the hero sacrifices his daughter due to superstitious beliefs that lead to the fallout between the two. Leo also received negative comments for the second half. The speech of SAC has now gone viral among fans.

It has to be noted that SAC and Vijay are not on great terms. Earlier, SAC announced a political party in Vijay’s name and the actor ended up filing a case against his dad for it. However, it was thought all got well between the two as SAC was invited to be part of Varisu’s audio launch.

Meanwhile, Vijay is currently shooting for his upcoming film with Venkat Prabhu, titled Greatest of All Time. The film also has Prabhudheva, Prashanth, Laila, Sneha, Meenakshi Chaudhry, and Mohan in important roles.
