Saumya Tandon has appeared in many television shows and films but the actor is best known for her work in the comedy show Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hain. The show started airing in 2015 and Saumya was a part of the show for over five years. In a new interview, the actor said that she did not even like the show’s name when she was offered the part of Anita bhabhi. She refused to star in the show for 6-7 months and ultimately gave in when the makers kept on insisting that she must take it up.

“When I was offered this show, I didn’t even like the name. I just rejected it for the longest time,” she told Digital Commentary. Saumya said that she had a great partnership with Zee TV as she had worked with them for Dance India Dance so when they brought her the proposal of starring in this show, she asked them if she could do another non fiction show. “I said I can’t do daily soaps. They said, ‘No, no you have to, we think you are perfect for it.’ I kept on saying no and they kept on saying yes,” she said.

Saumya Tandon said that after she started shooting, she felt like she had made a career-ending mistake as she called up her then-boyfriend and said that she would “die as Bhabi ji”. “I said I have made a mistake. This is the end of my career. I will just die as Bhabi ji. I called them (makers) back and I asked them if I can come out of it. They said now we will sue you because we are going on air next week and if you say no, we will sue you now,” she recalled. However, Saumya eventually realised that the show was a great opportunity for her and she stayed on to learn more from her director a0nd co-actors.

After staying on Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hain for over 5 years, Saumya eventually left the show in 2020. She said that she “gave up a lot of money to not do” the show. “My producer kept telling me, ‘Don’t go. It’s not easy to get this kind of money. Your show is very popular.’ But money was not exciting me enough and I thought this is only one life so I got to try different things,” she said.
