Filmmaker Pa Ranjith reacted to the inauguration of Ram Temple in Ayodhya by PM Narendra Modi on Monday. For the filmmaker, the inauguration of the temple, amid huge fanfare, was a part of “regressive politics”, which needed to be countered by Indians. He said that the future of the country is in “danger” and to protect it, he wants to use the medium of art to “remove communal ideas” from the minds of people.

Ranjith, while speaking at the press conference of his production, Blue Star, said, “It has come to the point that if we do not light camphor in our homes today, we can be considered terrorists. India is moving towards a very dangerous future. There is a fear among us about what kind of India we will be living in the next five or ten years.”

The filmmaker said “to erase the regressive ideas that have been taught to us and to remove communal ideas from our minds,” he is using the medium of art. He added, “We must each work towards saving India from such a future. I believe that across India, people will do the same.”

He also commented on Rajinikanth attending Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony. Ranjith answered, “It’s his choice to go to the Ram temple. But he stated that this is a conclusion to a 500-year-old problem. We have to question the politics behind it. I have a critique of his opinion beyond whether he is right or wrong.”

The inauguration of Ram Temple in Ayodhya was attended by many celebrities from the Indian film fraternity. From Ram Charan, Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt to Rajinikanth and Rakshit Shetty, many stars reached Ayodhya on Monday and attended the Ram Temple Pran Pratishtha ceremony.

Meanwhile, several Malayalam film personalities, including actors Parvathy Thiruvothu, Rima Kallingal, Divya Prabha, Rajesh Madhavan, Kani Kusruti, directors Jeo Baby, Aashiq Abu, Kamal KM, Kunjila Mascillamani, and singer Sooraj Santhosh, shared images of the Constitution’s Preamble, which is being looked at as their way of protesting against the state-sponsored event. Sushmita Sen also shared a picture of the Constitution’s Preamble on her social media account.
