CID is undoubtedly one of the most iconic shows on Indian television. Recently, Shivaji Satam, who portrayed the lead role of ACP Pradyuman on the show, opened up about it going off-air despite its immense popularity. Satam suggested that a rift between the show’s producer and Sony channel might have contributed to its end after a successful 20-year run.

Drawing comparisons between CID and another long-running show, Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, Satam told Friday Talkies, “We used to ask the channel why they were shutting it down. We were neck-to-neck with KBC. Yes, the show experienced a slight decline in TRPs, but what show doesn’t? Before discontinuing the show, they tampered with its schedule. Originally, it aired at 10 pm, but they started airing it at 10:30 pm or sometimes even at 10:45 pm. This weaned the audience away, or at least they tried to.”

Shivaji Satam further hinted at the channel’s issues with the producer, explaining, “They likely had a problem with the producer and wanted to replace him. But for us, it wasn’t just about loyalty; it was about friendship. We rose up together. We were a team.”

CID premiered in 1998 and aired until 2018, making it one of the longest-running television series in India. Created by B.P. Singh and produced by Fireworks Productions, the series became a staple for crime show enthusiasts. Alongside Shivaji Satam, the show starred Aditya Srivastava as Sr. Inspector Abhijeet, Dayanand Shetty as Sr. Inspector Daya, Dinesh Phadnis as Inspector Fredricks, and Narendra Gupta as Dr. Salunkhe.
